During the first half of term 2, the Pre KG class will be studying four shapes (circle, triangle, square and rectangle) and the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. The children will be encouraged to work together cooperatively, taking turns and sharing. Early mathematics will focus on matching sets of numbers to numerals and sizes. Much fun will be had exploring porridge and tasting it. The children will be finding out about bees and honey and having a toast and honey day. The finale of the topic will be a trip to the park for our Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

During the second half of Term 2, Pre KG will be studying the topic of “the Farm”. We shall be reading the story of ‘The Little Red Hen”, discussing what is right and wrong and how to be a good friend. The children will have the opportunity to make their own bread and eat it. We shall be looking at where wool, milk and eggs come from and hatching a few chicks of our own in the classroom.

In Kindergarten during the 1st term we focus on the Prime Areas of Early Years Foundation stage curriculum. This is the Personal, Social and Emotional Development of your child. We also emphasize on their Physical Development and their Communication and Language. This enables your child to feel secure and gives them the opportunity to settle into their new environment. During the 2nd and 3rd term we then focus on Specific Areas, which is their mathematical development, Expressive arts and Design, Literacy and Knowledge and Understanding of the World. All of these areas are learn through play, age appropriate and child initiated. We have a lot of fun days also and some enjoyable school trips. Our aim in Kindergarten is to make the first year of your child’s school life a happy and stimulating experience.
